Yesterday I was buying 10 bottles of HEET (100% methanol) and distilled water for my car (who can guess why? :-)) at Walmart and accidentally noticed something very familiar while walking near kitchenware shells… It was like: did I shoot these? Yep!
It is still a little unusual feeling to see my own work in such places: it is like browsing incognito your own exhibition:-). I was smiling when shooting them on Droid X (BTW, surprisingly nice 8Mpx camera):

Rival toaster
This is about 10% of what we actually did for Walmart, the rest is still (my guess) in a creative packaging department. We did not announce much of the product shots, but hare is a few of them, with lighting setup: Product photography for Walmart . I hope to find some time to release few more photo-sets we had in past, it might be interesting for you:-)
Now, the rest of what I found on Walmart shells:

GE grill

Rival Blender
These are cheap stuff, and it will be hart to imagine (for a regular walmart buyer) how much work was involved to shoot some of these products. I was enjoying to work with every piece of it.
But honestly, I would be much more satisfied to see my work at stores like Crate&Barrel, Macy’s, Bed Bath & Beyond… I know we’ll be there, just need a little more time:-)

Congrats. Can’t go any more mainstream than Walmart ;)
And methanol injection. Boost too high? IC can’t handle it in this weather? It’s a family sedan, not a sports car, man, turn it down a bit :P

Andrew!
Glad to hear from you, my friend:-)
As for a meth injection: I have 2 nozzle setup: one pre-turbo to help with boost and IAT, and one in the throttle body.. Mostly it is not about boost, but about timing: I’ve ganed 6 degrees in some areas:-)
Family sedan can’t be too fast, right?
Thank you.

No need for heet, just buy yourself a 5 gallon drum of Meth and mix it yourself. For me, I have found that buying the $1.50 bottles of windshield washer fluid and then adding a little straight meth is alot cheaper. Love the website BTW. Nice to see fellow photographers that are into cars also. Keep up the good work.

Brandon,
Yep, this is what I do:-) But instead of buying a full drum, I but 4 gallons every 1-2 month from a local guys (topspeedtuned.com). Cost few times less then heet. What kind of the car you have? What kind of photography you do? Really like to know more about photog who in cars too:-)

@Alex Koloskov, I have a big turbo’ed 2002 VW Gti. Before the Meth, it dynoed at 345whp but I haven’t had a chance to get it on the rollers since. Oh, and as of about two weeks ago, my Meth controller took a crap so its on its way back for repairs. As for the photography, I dabble in alot although until recently it has just been a hobby. I now am mainly doing catalog photography because I am the new in-house photographer for the Mrs.Fields Cookies mailorder catalog. I keep this site open in one of my tabs so if I need a quick tip, I always have it.

Brandon,
Wow, you’ve got a serious car :-)
I drive 2005 Subaru legacy GT, never been on a dyno. I’ve reprogrammed ECU myself (RomRaider), installed larger IC and metch 2 nozzle setup (pre and post turbo). I did not have any intention to mod the car when I bough t it , 1 year used from a dealer. Everything got changed when I found that it has large aftermarket downpipe, gar was ready for stage-II reprogram:-)
I’ve got 5 speed auto (full manual control through the wheel buttons, pretty cool for 2005 car), so whp will be lower then I can expect from my setup.. but I like comfort, and gearbox still handles load well.
Is this your photo: http://ww2.mrsfields.com/files/products/1237_600x600.jpg ?
pretty good, except the sharpening for web! You can you the action script our retoucher published recently, you’ll like the result!
All the best.
Alex
Alex, that photo is a really old one and to be honest, I’m not sure who took the photo. The in-house photography studio is new so nothing I have shot will show up until the printing of our Easter or Mothers day catalog. I am just working like crazy right now trying to get up to speed on the types of photos they need as they are trying to change up the look of the catalog. I will take a look at that action. Thanks!
